Bike Touring Highlight
The bridge in front of Amdorf is a "must" when you experience the Mesopotamian region of Leda and Jümme. Along the Leda, you have to cross this bridge if you want to get to Amdorf, no matter how wide the car is. We cyclists are clearly in the more relaxed situation. Many motor vehicle drivers have already worn their mirrors here.
IMPERATIVE ATTENTION TO THE TRAFFIC LIGHTS! Everything else is life-threatening. There is no alternative when the oncoming traffic is green. The ascent and descent are very steep and should be driven carefully. Crossing the bridge is definitely an experience that you won't immediately forget.

After negotiations in May 1886, a private ferry connection with a rowing boat was set up at Amdorf-Stintrick in order to establish a regular connection to Amdorf and Neuburg. In the following decades, the operators of the ferry connection repeatedly complained about the non-cost-covering operation and each had to be subsidized in order to maintain the ferry connection. The ferry service was awarded for the last time in June 1951, but the ferry operator Anton Schöneboom gave notice in April of the following year without a new operator being found.
First of all, it was decided to build a catwalk to enable the parishioners from Tammingaburg, Stintrick, Schmerige Hörn and Critzhörn, who live on the Nettelburg river side, to visit the Amdorfer church. A little later, however, the municipal council decided to build a bridge that, in addition to pedestrians, was also used by ambulances, fire trucks and for transport.

The narrowest bridge in Germany is in the district of Leer in East Frisia. It runs over the Leda river, a tributary of the Ems, which flows into the North Sea. The car bridge is in a rural area with green meadows, black and white cows and grazing sheep on the dike.
When driving along the dike, a traffic light comes unexpectedly. If it turns green, there is no turning back and off you go. Drivers have to cross the narrow bridge with courage and fearlessness. Is it squeaking or scratching? Just no scratches in the paint, that creates trouble and becomes expensive. With their hands clutching the steering wheel, intrepid people cross this bridge unscathed. And no rearview mirror is off.
The holding bay behind the bridge offers a small parking space to take a closer look at the bridge. And there are always cars that are routinely driven over. There are many cars with foreign license plates in the remote area. This bridge is famous.

Always something going on on the narrowest car bridge, about 1.8m wide. A steep climb for cyclists, but it's worth it
