    Tips

    May 24, 2021

The stork's nest in Idehörn was built in 2019 with a 10-meter-high tree trunk with a diameter of 30 centimeters. In 2020, a young stork settled for the first time and, for the first time since 2021, a pair of storks is breeding here on the edge of the Breinermoor Hammrich. With the stork's nest at the northern end of Breinermoor and the Folmhusen stork's nest opposite the Idehörn stork's nest, there are 3 stork nests here. The increased influx of storks has been observed locally for several years. Up to 28 animals have been counted in one spot in the Hammrich around Breinermoor, Backemoor and Collinghorst. But groups of over a dozen storks are fortunately no longer a rarity here.
Spraying the externally managed fields in the region with insecticides, on the other hand, is not exactly helping the return of these once threatened, carnivorous white storks.

      April 1, 2022

The 2022 season began with the arrival of the stork pair in mid-March. The chicks hatched in mid or late April during a period of continuous drought. Few insects and worms retreating into the deeper layers of the earth led to a lack of food for the young storks, since they cannot do anything with frogs, mice and the like. Then, in mid-May, 3 days before the rains came, the parents sacrificed one of the young and threw it out of the nest. I will report on how things are going with the offspring in June 2022.
