The Weidelsburg was one of the most important castles in the Landgraviate of Hesse in the late Middle Ages. You reach the imposing castle ruins via a narrow serpentine path. In the gigantic east tower you can reach the viewing platform via a staircase and enjoy the magnificent panorama from there. There is also a small kiosk here with a hoisted flag showing when it is open. Mostly this is on Sundays and public holidays.

The Weidelsburg is a very interesting and well-preserved building. You should definitely go to the east tower, from there you have a wonderful panoramic view of northern Hesse in all directions. The plateau is well secured and feasible even for those who fear heights.

The castle complex is enthroned on top of an extinct volcanic cone. It is currently being renovated. The castle tavern is open on weekends when the weather is good.
