An old quarry in the forest, there are many in this area

About 500 m down the path to the west below Weidelsburg is the “Katzenloch” leisure complex, owned by Hessen-Forst, Wolfhagen Forestry Office, a basalt quarry that was closed down in the 1960s. The long-distance hiking trails Habichtswaldsteig-Extratour H8 and the Huguenot-Waldenser-Pfad lead past it directly via the so-called zigzag path.
There is no reliable evidence of the name “Katzenloch”. However, it can be assumed that it was derived from the natural stone name “Katzenköpfe”. This is the name given to the basalt paving stones used for road and path construction since ancient times.
