About Thomas S.

Hallo,
Stay Tuned ;-)

Behind Haaren it went straight into the forest and then towards Wewelsburg. Shortly before Wewelsburg, the signs are insufficient and the wider path with the X marking is the right one here. Here is also the old SS shooting range and a board that informs about the atrocities that happened here from 1940 onwards. All of this is depressing, even if you go to the museum in the Welwelsburg, a visit to the Kiche nebean is recommended to process all of this. There is an interactive light installation with background music and texts for meditation or programs for children. Further on the path (is then identical to the Jesuit path) it goes towards the Alme and then back into the forest, always straight ahead and uphill towards Büren. When you reach Obern, you continue on narrow paths. It's not pretty, but the goal in front of our eyes drives us. Unfortunately, there is only one opportunity to rest here (on the Haaren-Büren district road) or a few more steps at the Büren forest school. We accepted them with thanks and with enough seating we enjoyed the silence. The last meters it goes over asphalt down to Büren again to the Jesuit church or market place.

The weather was bad today, but this stage is not too strenuous as there are only a few meters to overcome. Parking spaces are available at the start and finish. The route does not necessarily shine with many highlights except for the moor near woodlice and a black stork that we could observe there. The renaturation of Altenau bau Husen is an exciting project.

The stage has some climbs (430HM) and was exhausting after 23km. The spruce stand on the harrow has been completely destroyed and the extent of the bark beetle infestation is particularly clear here. But it has its good points and nature creates new habitats. Also, differently than with spruce monocultures, they will certainly be reforested. The route offers good rest opportunities and from the radio tower in Willebadessen it goes on a single trail for kilometers over the Eggekamm. Unfortunately, behind Bierbaum Nagel, you can no longer hike so close to the cliff, as the dead wood is meters high above the path. The original path has also disappeared or is impassable shortly before Herbram-Wald. Some sections of the route are through meter-high grass, long clothing and an intensive check for ticks is recommended.

Looking back, we see a really nice stage. On this stage it goes through 3rd circles (PB, HSK, HX) and it is very varied with forest, fields and villages. There are some info points and interesting facts, e.g. the Via Reggia at Gut Wohlbedacht or the Bleikuhlen and Wüstung at Blankenrode. The EGV department in Essentho, Oesdorf and Blankenrode have shelters along the way that are ideal for resting. Most of the paths are over gravel and asphalt, and there are also a few single trail sections.

We took the time in the late afternoon and were able to enjoy the absolute silence of the evening hours. The stage in Nad Wünnenberg offers enough opportunities to stop and even an ice machine at the Eismanufactur 😊. The paths are good and most of the time it is on gravel forest roads. The landscape is varied (city, country, river).

The Sintfeld Höhenweg is a circular route of 144 km around the Paderborner plateau (paderborner-land.de/deu/aktiv/wandern/wege/sintfeld-hoehenweg.php). The first stage led us from the market square in Büren through the Almetal towards Weine and Siddinghausen. From Siddinghausen we went a bit on the Grenzsteinwanderweg towards Harth / Ringelstein. Shortly after Harth, the first stage ends at the hiking car park near Weiberg.

I recorded the tour today with the Outdoor Active app because I wanted to test the functions of my Apple Watch: out.ac/IIMGNT >> I actually bought the smart watch because of the advertising here on Kommot. The support is only moderate and for me there is no added value. Outdoor Active offers more. Let's see it goes on in the future.

The Kulturlandkreis Höxter recommended this hike and it is a very informative hike. Many routes are single trails and require good surefootedness. The routes can be shortened and there are even shorter learning laps to discover the area with children. Now today it was rainy weather and the background noise of the B64 was therefore low. You only get something of it on a part of the route. More details are available here: kulturland.org/Aktivitaeten/Wandern/Lieblingstouren-Wandern/Hoexter-Wege-der-Vielfalt
