The parish church in Berg (town of Mechernich) was dedicated to Saint Peter. Simon, nicknamed Peter (Rock), was a fisherman on the Sea of Galilee when he, along with his brother Andrew, was called by Jesus Christ to be a "fisher of men." According to Catholic understanding, he is the highest apostle, and the two-millennia-long line of popes—currently Francis—follows his example. In statues and paintings, Peter is almost always depicted holding two keys. This attribute refers to the biblical passage in Matthew: "I will give you the keys of the kingdom of heaven; whatever you bind on earth will be bound in heaven, and whatever you loose on earth will be loosed in heaven." (Chapter 16, Verse 19). Peter, along with Paul, is also known as the "Prince of the Apostles." Their common feast day in the calendar of saints is June 29th.

The Catholic parish church of St. Peter is dedicated to St. Peter the Apostle. The church was built between 1864 and 1866 according to the plans of the architect Lambert Geller from Kommern and consecrated on August 3, 1867. Source: Wikipedia.
The large stained glass windows and the beautiful high altar from the second half of the 19th century inside the parish church are well worth seeing.

The church is entered in the list of monuments in Mecherrnich. The church was badly damaged by shell fire in 1945. This damage was repaired by 1959 and a new sacristy was built. Werner Geyer from Mechernich provided the plans for this. (Wikipedia)
