Hiking

The city is traversed in the central city area from east to west by the eponymous Pegnitz. In the western area flows the Bitterbach, which has cut the Bitterbach gorge in the Burgsandstein in a narrow piece of forest in the northwest of the city. The picturesque nick was opened to the public in the early 1950s. The marked trail along the creek is part of the Geoecological Nature Trail Bitterbachschlucht.
