Hiking Highlight (Segment)
This Highlight goes through a protected area
Please check local regulations for: Bodetal
Location: Thale, Harz, Harz Mountains, Saxony-Anhalt, Germany
The Bodetal is probably the most beautiful valley in the Harz Mountains and is also one of the most beautiful gorges in Germany. In some places it is also referred to as the Grand Canyon of the Harz Mountains. The granite rocks to the right and left of the Bode River rise up to 280 meters high. This rises on the Brocken and paves an impressive path through granite and rock. The many rocks, smoothed by the torrential water, invite you to take a break and cool off your overheated feet in many places.
A hike through the Bodetal is one of the most beautiful hiking trails in the Harz Mountains. Unfortunately, others know that too. Therefore, you have to be prepared for a lot of public traffic when you hike through the Bode Gorge. It is best to start the approximately nine-kilometer hike from Thale to Treseburg early in the morning, when it is less busy. The way back can be covered by bus.

Get up early and go. Then you have this section almost to yourself. Now and then leave the path (of course in other ways) and you get a completely different perspective.
I started in Thale at 0400.
What is stupid ... Many restaurants do, even in the season, at lunchtime (attention word games) LUNCH BREAK! !!! 😂

Sturdy shoes are strongly recommended!
(In my eyes, sneakers are not sturdy shoes)

Nice view of the Bode.
Actually a worthy place for a Stemeplkasten of the Harz hiking pin

The Bodetal welcomes you wild and yet so romantic. The Bode is boiling loudly and threateningly in some places. At others she invites you to linger, sometimes you can even get in. Many mystical places await you there, such as the Bodekessel or the Sonnenklippe. In some places cliffs protrude into the valley and you can, for example, look up to the Rosstrappe and marvel at the huge rock massif. If you are a good observer, in this valley you can see trout in the water, birds such as the dipper or the gray wagtail.
You can reach the Bodetal either from Treseburg or from Thale. There is sufficient parking space on both sides, mostly for a fee. Gastronomy is available at both entry points and in the valley in the Gasthaus Königsruhe.
The paths from Thale to the inn and from Treseburg to the Sonnenklippe are easy to walk on and most of them are free of obstacles. In the middle part of the valley, surefootedness and attention are required. Stones stick out of the way here and can become stumbling blocks. But it is precisely this wildness that makes the Bodetal so fascinating.

The path here is built on metal directly on the rock

Not necessarily on the weekend. But otherwise beautiful to hiking.

Great way in the Bode valley between Treseburg and Thale

The Bodetal is closed until spring 2021. The diversion is signposted and leads along above / to the Hexentanzplatz. From Thale you can walk to the Königskrug and the path to La Viershöhe.

A bridge that goes around the corner. You don't see something like that every day. 😀
