Armor, swords, sabers, rifles - all of these were made in hammer mills that used water-powered bellows to forge iron. Such "weapon hammers" only appeared towards the end of the Middle Ages. The diabase rock of the Steinachtal contained mineable red iron ores that were suitable for further processing in weapon hammers. A hammer forge was documented here as early as 1348.

This wasteland is near the Steinachklamm. The property served as a restaurant and was a Till Eulenspiegel Museum until 2017, which can still be recognized by the oversized Till Eulenspiegel in the garden.
