The abandoned and partially already restored limestone quarry near the village of Ludwag is known not only for its fossil finds, but above all for its specific color and the particularly pronounced sponge reefs on its north side.

For once, highlight and photos are not clearly located here - u. a. also because Komoot does not recognize the paths in the quarry. You should definitely pay attention during a visit, that some places - not least because of threatening crashes - are not without danger!

The gradually renatured former Ludwager quarry is also nicknamed Staa-Beißer.
Unfortunately, however, this natural idyll has suffered greatly from the low-precipitation winters and summers of recent years. In the evening sunlight, the stone walls still offer a great picture.

The site offers good conditions for fossil researchers. You can take a small hammer with you to knock on the rugged rock and look for fossils.

The lake, also known as the green lagoon, dried out around 2016 and only stones can be seen.
The water up to four meters deep in humid days has since dried up. Not even wet winters and precipitation could fill the pool again.

In 1994, the quarry in the Sat1 crime series The King, Follow Heart of Gold, with Günter Strack, served as the backdrop for the final scene.
In August 2009, he served as the backdrop for guitarist Chris Mike's music video Zorro.

A fantastic, colorful and lonely place, would be a great movie set. The 500m to the lowest point Bruches almost no one walks. It is worth it, you can see the fight of the pioneer plants on the nutrient-poor soil. I'm not a geologist, but there are so many different things open at the edges of the break ...
Edit: The small lake was dried up during my visit in July 2018, I could not take a bath.
        Visit recommended!
