The Pfeifferturm is the oldest architectural monument in the city. It was built at the beginning of the 13th century as a municipal observation and watchtower on a square floor plan. The tower marks the border between the medieval city and the suburb, which was built after 1500. The small rectangular windows were added later when the tower was used as an official prison between 1850 and 1859.

The tower, built in the first half of the 13th century, was constructed as part of the medieval city fortifications after Eppingen was elevated to an imperial city in 1191/92 by the Hohenstaufen Emperor Henry VI. The tower was built in a central location, at the main gate to the old town. You can still see from the masonry on the south side that the gate was built here. The protruding console stones are remnants of the connecting corridor between the city walls on both sides. The bricked-up round-arch door at the height of the corbels was the original entrance to the tower.

The tower was renovated in 2002 and then reopened to the public.

A working group made up of representatives of the Eppingen local friends, the archive for the history of rural life, the nature conservation group "Eppinger Falken", the municipal building authority, the municipal archive and the municipal and half-timbered museum developed the basis for the installation and design of the Pfeifferturm cultural monument, which was opened as an annex to the museum on Kirchweihsonntag in October 2003.
