Here at the market square you can see the town hall, the old post office with the double gable (1515/1588) and a unique insight into the stylistic change of Franconian half-timbering, the baroque half-timbered house "Cafe Schäfer" with a French mansard roof and many other buildings worth seeing.

For many years, the market square was also the place where the famous Eppingen “pig market” was held, one of the largest pig markets in Baden. Between 400 and 600 “milk pigs” and “runners” were offered for sale here. Every Friday morning at 6 a.m., the town clerk Hermann Nagel hoisted a small yellow and red flag at the town hall entrance as a sign that the market could begin.
A lively hustle and bustle developed: buyers and sellers from the surrounding area haggled over the pigs offered in large wicker baskets. Mysterious-looking hand signals sealed the purchase and sale. Friday was also the day of the week with the highest sales for many innkeepers, because the market visit was traditionally followed by a morning pint to exchange news. The last time a pig market was held was in 1979.
