The beautiful church of Nossa Senhora das Angústias is located on the south side of Horta and dates back to the 19th century.
Built over the previous Santa Cruz Chapel, built by the island's first colonists, almost exactly on the spot where the first mass was celebrated on the island after the first exploration ship landed. Due to its collapse, it was rebuilt around 1675. The current building was built at the beginning of the 19th century.translated by

When we visited the church there was a service going on. Therefore, we couldn't take pictures of the interior. A beautiful church.
