The building is mentioned in a document in 1592 and has been called Schaafenkotten since 1742. The Kotten had been part of the Diek farm since that time.

Today, the Schaafenkotten is a very attractive old house located between Breidenmühle and Brucher Mühle, beautifully situated on the Itter River in the municipality of Haan. Razors and other large knives were sharpened here around 1900. A wooden waterwheel powered the grindstones. Today, the water power no longer exists; since 2010, the upper ditch has barely carried any water. Nature has allowed grass to grow over it.
