Best Hikes to Ilian Steps

Tips

  • The carter Ilian is said to have run down there centuries ago. Hence the name. The stairs were used as a grain and beer path as early as the 13th century. The carters did not take the easy route through the Rodetal because customs had to be paid there.

  • The Ilian stairway is part of a medieval transport route and is located in the Nörten forest near the mountain "Hohe Steyer". It is a sandstone carved way, probably from the 13th century, in which the wheels of the former ox and horse carts were incorporated.

  • A visit to the Ilian Stairs is worth it, but be careful, it can be quite slippery.
The easily recognizable wagon tracks are very interesting.
