Best Hikes to Cairn Bannoch

Tips

  • Cairn Bannoch is a 1,012 meters Munro mountain in the southern Cairngorms in the Scottish Highlands. It's often climbed as part of a circuit of Lochnagar hills (five Munros to the west of Loch Muick).

We started and finished at the Glas Allt Shiel bothy. The area has been a favourite of the royal family since Victorian times.

  • Cairn Bannoch is usually attained by walking the White Mounth, the name given to the range of hills here. Starting from Loch Muick, walking round from Lochnagar to Broad Cairn, 5 munros can be bagged in a day.

Great views across the rolling hills, paths on many sections of the walk with a few km pathless, the navigation is fairly straight forward. In poor visibility this peak may be harder to locate.

  • You can find some shelter among the huge boulders just below the summit to enjoy the view and a snack.
