Couldn't get into the Spittal of Glenmuick car park due to soft snow. 🫣 So we changed the plan and hiked up another hill for a while. Slow going in the soft snow. Nevertheless, geat to get outside after weeks of rain. The sun nearly made an appearance, but wind and rain accompanied us most of the time.

Our first winter munro outing since completing a winter skills course last year. Great to get the crampons on and practice some self arrests with the ice axe. With the fog it felt more adventurous, as we couldn't see the ski centre for a lot of the walk. It was lovely to see some hares in their white winter coat.

Combining the Tarland Way, part of the Deeside Way and some trails and minor roads to create a nice loop. Depending on the day, various coffee options at Cambus O'May Cheese, Tarland tearooms, The Black Faced Sheep Café and Spider on a Bicycle Café in Aboyne.

Great walk up Morven today. Started below the clouds, then ascended into the clouds. Just below the summit, we suddenly emerged from the clouds into sunshine. A beautiful cloud inversion. Had some lunch and enjoyed the view of Mount Keen, Lochnagar, Ben Avon and other peaks floating like islands in the clouds.

Morrone, a corbett, can easily be reached from Braemar. A nice half day walk. Usually good views of the Cairngorms, although we just saw the inside of a cloud. There are 2 transmitters at the summit, which were eerie in the fog. We found some shelter from the wind for a quick sandwich.
