The Gothes ran the mill until 1942. In the 1970s it was converted into a restaurant. It was given a sixteen-cornered roof on which a cone tower was placed. A round building was added on the ground floor to provide more space for the guests. The shaft and windmill blades have been recreated. Recently until 2011, the Heichelheimer Potato Festival was held every year at the Heichelheimer Mühle. In addition to the Thuringian Potato Queen, the Thuringian Potato of the Year was also chosen here.

Alpacas, goats, sheep and donkeys, a trampoline, a sandpit and a large playground. A weekend café is planned in the future, but there is currently no gastronomy.
