Founded in the mid-16th century, this parish was founded on land that used to belong to the parish of Fajã da Ovelha. He settled in the small chapel of São Pedro, from which he took the patron saint, a chapel that has been rebuilt twice in different, albeit nearby, locations. A resolution of the Finance Council of July 20, 1690 ordered the auction of the work on the new church in Ponta do Pargo, with a budget of 2231 $600 Réis, with a discount of $60 000 Réis, the value of the stone of the old church. This parish, in a way, accompanied the vicissitudes that the parish of Porto do Moniz was going through: thus it incorporated the new parish when it was founded in 1835, becoming part of the parish of Calheta in 1849, and was again incorporated into that of Porto do Moniz when it was formed in 1855 has been restored.

The quite impressive church towers above the futuristic-looking center square of the town and contrasts it very pleasantly.
From far away on the hikes you can see this church as a guide📍
