The 35.40-meter Klagetorturm on the Kurpromenade is one of the few remaining gate towers in Thuringia. The walk-in castle tower with the adjoining BUND natural and educational garden are also worth a visit. From this garden you can reach another round tower over a section of the wall at its original height. A signposted circular route leads around the old town along the city wall.

The Klagetor is actually a city gate at the Kurpark, near the Japanese Gardens. Unfortunately not accessible today.

The old town is surrounded by the city wall, which has been largely preserved.
It was laid out in 1365 after an expansion of the city and originally comprised 24 defense towers and seven gates.
Of these, 16 towers have been preserved, as well as the Wailing Gate.
The ramparts were partially redesigned to form promenades, parks and gardens.
