The Bismarck Tower was built from sandstone that was quarried from the Landau fortress. The tower was originally built by the Ecker company, Landau. Shortly before the tower was unveiled, the structure collapsed and had to be rebuilt. The coat of arms of Bismarck can be seen above the entrance.

In 1904, Eduard Ferdinand Koch, a member of Landau's city council, proposed the erection of a monument dedicated to Chancellor Otto von Bismarck. It is located in the area of the historic Fort von Landau.

The monument dedicated to Chancellor Otto von Bismarck was designed by the Drachenfels Club from 1896 and erected from 1901 to 1903 under the direction of the architect Friedrich Kunst from Karlsruhe.

In 1925, a concrete ceiling collapsed while a school class was climbing the tower. In 1928 the relief, which had previously been destroyed by the French, was renewed. Two bombs hit the tower during World War II.

The first renovation by the Drachenfelsclub took place in 1949. In 1973/74, further renovation measures were carried out; At the same time, accommodation for the tower keeper was built. The tower has been a listed building since 1986.
