The north-eastern gate of the Vauban fortress from 1688 to 1691. It is identical in construction to the French gate. Both gates were the main entrance to the fortress. The adjoining city walls were removed during the demolition.

One of only 2 public entrances to the fortress city at that time was the northeastern gate of the Vauban fortress in Landau, the German Gate (built 1688-1687) with the Untertorplatz. In the gable it shows a rather grim Louis XIV looking towards Germany.

The German Gate – alternatively called the Untertor, formerly known as the Porte d'Allemagne – is a building in Landau in the Palatinate. It is a listed monument.
It forms the northern end of the old town and is located at Neustadter Straße 2. Immediately to the south are the Untertorplatz and the Gefallenen-Ehrenmal (War Memorial).
The gate, which was built between 1688 and 1691, together with its southern counterpart – the French Gate – forms one of two surviving remnants of the main wall of Landau Fortress. Until well into the 19th century, it represented only one of two ways to enter or exit the city. Due, among other reasons, to the increasing obstacle that this had become since the opening of the Neustadt-Wissembourg railway line and the city's train station, the fortress was abandoned in 1871, and another, eastern entrance was created in the form of today's Ostbahnstraße.
The building is a Baroque structure featuring a gateway and a three-aisled hall on the city side. It also features tympanum reliefs. The architect responsible for the design was Sébastien Le Prestre de Vauban.
