The station's representative reception building was built in 1889–1890 according to designs by Ernst Moeller.
On the station forecourt is the ornamental fountain Rettung aus Seenot from 1910 with bronze sculptures by Hugo Berwald. The fountain originally stood on the Schwerin market until 1927.
