The Fridericianum Schwerin is a classical language high school in Schwerin, Altstadt district, Goethestrasse 74. It was founded in 1553 and can look back on a centuries-long humanistic tradition. The high school is therefore one of the oldest schools in the German-speaking world. The school, which is also known colloquially as "Fritz", has a wide catchment area, which includes not only the city of Schwerin but also numerous surrounding communities from the neighboring districts.

The school's former headquarters was the two-story, elongated clinker building at today's August-Bebel-Strasse 11/12 on the east bank of the Pfaffenteich. It was built according to plans by the architect Hermann Willebrand and under the direction of master builder Carl Luckow.

Construction work began with the laying of the foundation stone on May 13, 1868 and was completed with the inauguration on October 10, 1870. The building is divided into a central and two end pavilions, which slightly tower over the connecting wings, and are decorated with contrasting terracotta and clinker decorations.
In 1887, the building ensemble was expanded to include a gymnasium. A further extension,
in which drawing and biology lessons were to take place, was added in 1908.

In the GDR era, the historic building housed the POS "August Bebel".
After the fall of the Berlin Wall, the building was temporarily used as a vocational school for business and administration. Since then, there have been plans to expand it into a university location. The Baltic College, a private university, now uses the

building. The building, like the gymnasium, is a listed building in Schwerin.

The princely school of Duke Johann Albrecht I was founded in 1553 and can look back on a centuries-old humanistic tradition. The grammar school is thus one of the oldest schools in the German-speaking world. Today home of the Fachhochschule des Mittelstands.
