The former sewage ponds located about 300 m north of the local community Emmelshausen and about 900 m south of the village of Halsenbach am Liesenfelder Bach, were originally used to clean the wastewater of the dairy cooperative Emmelshausen.
In 1968, the local community Emmelshausen acquired the pond area with the 3 single basins.
In 1995, the industrial area Halsenbach was connected to the sewage treatment plant Ehrbachtal, so that the ponds were now used only as a restraint with overflow in the Liesenfelder Bach.

In 2004, the objectives of the action program of the Ministry of the Environment were taken up, which defines the preservation and recovery of near-natural watercourses and water management under as many ecological aspects as the task of the water management in Rhineland-Palatinate. The plans for the renaturation of the Liesenfelder Bach in this area therefore included a preservation of the valuable existing structures as far as possible with the redesign and dismantling of all technical facilities as well as the filling of the trench profile that was no longer required.

    Objectives of renaturation:
    - Creation of a continuous near-natural watercourse with still waters in the shunt, instead of the previous permanent congestion with radical barrier formation
    - Improvement of the soil water balance while maintaining or developing high-quality, well-moistured open-country habitats
    - starting point for school classes as a "classroom in the countryside"
    - Creation of an attractive tourist experience point
