The ecclesiastical chronicle of Emmelshausen reports that the shepherd and farmer saint Wendelinus came here with his herd and an eye ill assistant in this area and had come on a hot summer day due to lack of water in great distress. Then, in her sleep, the Blessed Mother appeared and let the spring spurt out.
Through the missionary activities of Sacred Heart Fathers after the First World War (1918), the place of pilgrimage was gradually transformed into a Mother of God chapel. The Madonna figure was made in 1955 by the carving Mettler in Morbach. Side figures are the hl. Wendelin and hl. Thaddeus.
The attached stone slabs bear witness to the devotion to Mary.
