GPS receivers enable an exact determination of position on the earth's surface, for example as a navigation aid when hiking and driving or for geocaching. Every Bavarian district should therefore have at least one geodetic reference point. This establishes the connection between the worldwide coordinate system and a point on the earth's surface. In Wunsiedel it is marked by a metal plate in the station park with the coordinates on a granite column and an explanatory board.
