Markus Zahn, after whom the avenue is named, was born in Schönwald in 1839 and died in Wunsiedel in 1905. He was a popular senior teacher at the elementary school Wunsiedel. Since 1875, he has been planting so-called "confirmation trees" along the way with the students leaving the school, which was then dedicated to him by the city of Wunsiedel. Incidentally, this path, which is inconspicuous today, is the old road link from Wunsiedel through the Zeitelmoos and via Weißenstadt to Bayreuth. It was not until the 1860 Maintalstraße, which is the predecessor of today's federal highway 303 was built, lost this route over Weissenstadt in importance.
