The landmark Wunsiedel got its name in the first year of its existence (1471). It was called the "koppeten tower", in all likelihood because he did not have a developed spire. It was only set up about 20 years later. During the city fire in 1834, the tower burned down. It was rebuilt in 1838 according to a (still existing) plan, which had been made in the district building bureau in Bayreuth in its present form.

The Koppetentor is the only preserved gate of the former town fortification of Wunsiedel and was built in 1471.

The Koppetentorturm is the only surviving city gate tower from the former city fortifications. The tower was built between 1467 and 1471 as part of an expansion of the city wall.
The other two were either destroyed or removed over time.
The name of the gate comes from the fact that the gate originally only had a kind of temporary roof and thus looked like it had been beheaded (koppet).
As a result of the city fire of 1834, the tower burned down completely and was rebuilt in its present form in 1838.
        Koppetentorstraße leads through the gate.
