Wow. What a great walk.
For day 2 I had to get back to the Itchenor ferry, but as I didn't know the tides I decided to cut inland; it was differently scenic, pastoral and rural. I had a little wait for the ferry and wasn't sure where it was going to pick up because where I got off yesterday was now landlocked. But I found it and crossed, and there's where it really took off.
Between Itchenor and the Witterings you first walk past salt marsh, then there's a narrow path through old forest with farmland on one side and the sea on the other. It was absolutely stunning.
Then arrived at East Head where it turned into sand dunes, a completely different experience. Even with the strong, cold wind this was an incredibly beautiful place.
Then into West Wittering village, a typically beautiful piece of Old England; flint walls and thatched roofs, manor houses and cottages.
My only error was the rash choice to walk on to East Wittering, which turned out to be the boring urban cousin; I should have explored East Head more and finished in West Wittering.
But that didn't spoil what was a genuinely jaw-dropping walk. I will 100% be back.
