That's a terrific walk anytime, it must be very exciting in the wet at night, the limestone rocks there are very slippery!

Cavedale always used to be a favourite descent on the mountain bike when I went. Looks like a great atmosphere in the pub Seán

Great pics. I love Derbyshire. I used to spend all my school holidays with my grandma in Buxton. She was a great walker and gave me a love of the countryside, driving all over the county for long walks with her dogs and visits to family members - some on farms with no electricity or running water. Parc Lead Mine is an interesting place located within the beautiful Gwydyr Forest in a quiet corner of Eryri / Snowdonia. The mine contains several levels, but great care should be taken as some levels may be flooded. On our visit, we only took Level 2 (which was the level we entered and exited).

A Moorland Adventure A day out with my brother in western Wicklow 😃 The weather was cloudy and dry, mild for the time of year. We hiked 3 small mountains, which involved a very steep first ascent up through a forest and lots of navigating through peat hags and boggy puddles on the higher sections. The second summit, Moanbane, had a post marker that sank almost completely in the summit pond. 😄 We also saw a herd of white-tailed deer up on the moorland. On the third summit, Black Hill, there were good views down to Poulaphuca Reservoir. On the descent, we visited a memorial stone for a 1940s air crash. However, there was no crash debris. The route off the hill was a bit confusing as a few signs for private property gave conflicting information. We ended up fighting through some high gorse bushes to get down! Back down at the road, we had good, slightly elevated views of the large reservoir. There was road bashing to do (and it wasn't flat!) However, we still finished before sunset. A quick pint at the Lake View Lounge in Ballyknockan followed. We then stopped off at the West Wicklow House in Blessington, where we had some excellent post-hike pub food. This place is highly recommended. 😋 All in all a very enjoyable day out with my brother. Looking forward to more next year. As for the specific route, I would recommend clear, dry weather to get the best out of it.

Windfarm & Waterfall I visited County Roscommon's highest point. It's on a broad hill overlooking Lough Allen, on the border of Roscommon and Leitrim. There is a large windfarm on the hill. It has two tops, each marked by a cairn. The higher top (Seltannasaggart Summit) is in County Leitrim. The lower top (Seltannasaggart Southeast Slope) is the highest point in County Roscommon. The route is nearly all on minor roads or well-made tracks, so navigation is easy. The upper slopes have a somewhat desolate feel to them. The lower slopes are forested and include a nice waterfall which I visited on the descent. The final stretch involved a bit of road-bashing to return to the car, parked near a church. All in all, a very serene walk (I didn't meet a single person). 🙂

Head Torch Envy! A brilliant Friday evening micro-adventure with Sheffield Mountaineers. Starting at Miller's Dale, we took the riverside path down to Chee Dale, which was extremely atmospheric. I would describe it as an adventurous walk or a 'grade 0' scramble! The stepping stones were good fun and the cliff faces were spectacular. Not to mention the very starry night. There was lots of chatting, laughing and taking photos. We took the Monsal Trail back through a few tunnels to return to the car park and had some hot drinks and mince pies before heading to the Anglers Rest (a very cosy pub) for a social drink. I am becoming addicted to these night hikes... can't wait to do another one! I am also getting inspired to get a bigger, brighter, better head torch... 🔦

Misty and Muddy! A hike on a Peak District classic route, celebrating our leader's birthday. 😃 Unfortunately the views were non-existent, so there wasn't much stopping for photos. It was nice to meet a few new faces along with several friendly familiar faces. We traversed from Hope along the base of the Great Ridge, over to Castleton. Here we had a quick stop at the visitor centre before heading up the atmospheric Cave Dale. Then circled back around to the top of Winnats Pass before ascending to Mam Tor. It was unusually quiet... 🤔 Must be the great views! We continued along the ridge and over to Lose Hill before descending the slippery path back into Hope. A good few of us had a social / warm-up stop at the Old Hall Hotel afterwards. A really nice hike (despite the weather) with a lovely group of people.

Fun head torch evening walk with Sheffield Mountaineers. Something different on a Friday evening in late November. Luckily the weather was dry for the most part. This is a great little route with lots of interest along the way. At night, the lights of Matlock and Matlock Bath really add an extra element to it. The Heights of Abraham was really well lit up. We saw some cavers descending a shaft on the hillside on our way down. After a short stop for chips in Matlock Bath, we headed up to High Tor and Giddy Edge (which was shorter than I remembered). More great views down to the valley. We finished with a gentle descent down to Matlock and had a social stop at the Ostello Lounge before heading home. I really like getting out in the dark evenings for this kind of thing! Every season has something to offer. 😃

So jealous of your Guinness and grub. I used to love a pint and a pie. Gluten free these days. Great pics.
