This route was planned by komoot.
This bike tour was the second in the Bergische Panorama bike tour series. From Essen Kettwig the route took me away from the hustle and bustle and onto the bike path. This leads from Essen for around 10 km, initially steadily uphill with a gradient of around 2-5 percent. You pass urban and industrial scenery. Nevertheless, there is always a lot to see and it is very pleasant to cycle along the railway line. I ended my tour in Haan Gruiten, as the return journey by train should have been much easier for me... but unfortunately it wasn't because the trains to Cologne were cancelled. Thanks to Deutsche Bahn! Tour template: https://www.komoot.com/de-de/user/1112026894847
The Niederbergbahn seems to consist only of inclines. The route is very green, however. There is no point in doing the tour in reverse. Nevertheless, it is worth the effort. I liked the time tunnel in Wülfrath. It is always an immense pleasure to travel by train. I was happy about one cancelled train, one overcrowded train and one slightly delayed train (1.5).
With the S-Bahn from Benrath to Hösel, and we (Barbara, Gisela, Gerd, Günter, Helmut and I), led by Rolf, cycled this interesting (almost car-free) route in wonderful weather. The bridge café in Kettwig and the ice cream parlor at the Wülfrather church were good resting points. Also worth mentioning: The old Aprather mill is open again ;-). Great tour, thanks Rolf. And the cranes loudly used the favorable thermals, it was nice to see and hear them :-)
Returning from the cult cafe not to be recommended. Very overgrown and many areas washed out by the floods.
Once again, seven ADFC Hilden cyclists (winter group) were out and about in the best autumn weather. Today we took the S6 to Hösel and from there down the valley to Kettwig. After a stroll through the old town and a coffee break, we drove back to Hilden on the panorama cycle path.
The Niederbergbahn route from the Kettwiger reservoir to Ohligs really has a lot of great views to offer and is great for cycling - a great trip on two wheels! The ice cream at Francesco ice cream parlor in Tönisheide - a dream 😋
A route that is not suitable for pure touring riders. I had downloaded the tour from a book by Bachem Verlag. The paths were sometimes very difficult to ride with a touring bike. Single Trail was also there. The scenery wasn't bad, but I didn't have the nerve to take photos. CONCLUSION: not bad but not everyone would feel comfortable there ....
a different route this morning - very nice, even in the early morning when the sun is just around the corner ☀️ https://youtu.be/TqJwxT05QB4

I will go the other way. But: Why go up to Haan-Ost if you want to go to the Neandertal anyway? And the Düsseltal is much nicer. So alternatively: Not to Haan-Ost, but via Osterholzer Str. To Gruiten-Dorf, and through the Düsseltal to the museum
