There are many stories about the Schnapsbuche, a red beech in the Spittergrund near Tambach-Dietharz. The farmers who made hay in the meadows in the valley are said to have enjoyed their lunch in the shade of this huge beech tree. They probably also drank a schnapps or two. Klaus Nußbicker, a member of the town's history society, was told this story in his childhood.
