There are many stories about the Schnapsbuche, a red beech in the Spittergrund near Tambach-Dietharz. The farmers who made hay in the meadows in the valley are said to have enjoyed their lunch in the shade of this huge beech tree. They probably also drank a schnapps or two. Klaus Nußbicker, a member of the town's history society, was told this story in his childhood. In other accounts, it is carters who rested under the beech tree and fortified themselves with a "short drink" for the journey over the ridge of the Thuringian Forest. gotha.thueringer-allgemeine.de

It was felled, but the roots and a piece of the trunk remain.
Unfortunately, some people forget to take their liquor bottles with them. Disgusting!

She has now succumbed to age and environmental influences. The remains can still be found here.
