🇵🇹 Pico: Lavagrotten am Meer 🌋🌊
Nach einem Ausbruch des Vulkans Pico vor 300 Jahren floss ein Lavastrom direkt in Meer. Die erstarrte Lava bildete bizarre Gesteinsformationen und Grotten aus, die hier gut erschlossen bewundert werden können. Die Brandung des Atlantik umspült das Lavagestein.

The 🌋 Capelinhos volcano erupted in 1957, creating new landmass. The lighthouse once stood directly by the sea, now a large headland lies in front of it. It is impressive to see the forces within the Earth. Some plants are already beginning to colonize the new land.

Today the paths were not quite as slippery. But walking on the stone paths requires full concentration. The waterfalls are absolutely magical places, simply dreamlike beautiful, like from another world. We had enough time to enjoy the special atmosphere at the waterfalls.

The technique for drying and processing the tea leaves is partly over 100 years old. It looks like a museum here, but tea is still produced in a traditional way, which you can also drink and buy. I almost felt like I was in Sri Lanka, not in Europe.

🇵🇹 Sao Miguel: Vila Franca do Campo
Ich bin unterwegs mit einer Reisegruppe auf den Azorischen Insel. Vila Franca do Campo war das ehemalige Zentrum der Haupinsel Sao Miguel. Unsere erste Wanderung führte uns hinauf zu einer schönen Kapelle mit herrlichem Blick über die Stadt und eine vorgelagerte Vulkaninsel.

The landscape near the coast on the island of Pico looks completely different from the other islands. It is drier and warmer, the soils are predominantly black volcanic rock. Hydrangeas do not bloom here. But wine is grown here, similar to Lanzarote.
