🇵🇹 Sao Miguel: Vom Lagoa do Canario zur Grota do Inferno
Unsere erste Tour führte vom Lagoa do Canario (hier lebten früher Kanarienvögel) zum Top-Aussichtspunkt der Insel. Leider sahen wir nichts! Später verzog sich der Nebel, so dass wir doch noch den wunderschönen Kratersee von oben sehen konnten. Ein altes Aquädukt ist wunderschön moosbewachsen ein Relikt aus der Vergangenheit.

Velas appeals to me as the island capital the most so far. The cityscape is very clean and tidy. The facades of the houses are in white and yellow-orange colors, which creates a completely different atmosphere. The mosaics on the central squares and streets are worth seeing.

🇵🇹 Pico: Lavagrotten am Meer 🌋🌊
Nach einem Ausbruch des Vulkans Pico vor 300 Jahren floss ein Lavastrom direkt in Meer. Die erstarrte Lava bildete bizarre Gesteinsformationen und Grotten aus, die hier gut erschlossen bewundert werden können. Die Brandung des Atlantik umspült das Lavagestein.

The landscape near the coast on the island of Pico looks completely different from the other islands. It is drier and warmer, the soils are predominantly black volcanic rock. Hydrangeas do not bloom here. But wine is grown here, similar to Lanzarote.

The 🌋 Capelinhos volcano erupted in 1957, creating new landmass. The lighthouse once stood directly by the sea, now a large headland lies in front of it. It is impressive to see the forces within the Earth. Some plants are already beginning to colonize the new land.
