Hello everyone 🙂,

Today we went to Witten in beautiful hiking weather.
The starting point was the parking lot at the Saalbau in Witten 🅿️ (chargeable).

Past the Witten house, then we crossed the Ruhr and continued to the Nachtigall colliery.

A very nice tour. If I do it again in the summer, I will take the ferry (which doesn't run in the winter) to the lock keeper's house, stop there and walk back along the same side to Witten station.

Along the way, the M3 trail offers a wealth of information about the history of early Ruhr mining thanks to well-done reconstructions and information panels. Numerous benches and the …

Here the M3 circular route leads past sites of the early Ruhr mining industry. The path is lined with numerous information boards about early Ruhr mining, reconstructed tunnel entrances and conveyor systems, as well as some relics …

Beautiful circular route through the idyllic forest area of the Muttental. Along the way there are many relics/reconstructions from the early days of Ruhr mining. Very interesting, with some possible variations.

Today, Hartmut led a small group of just five hikers through the Muttental Valley. We walked past the Theresia Mine and Light Railway Museum to the Nachtigall Mine. Since it had just opened and was still very empty, we briefly considered taking a …

The weather wasn't exactly inviting for a bike tour, so grab your hiking boots and head to the beautiful Muttental.
