Hiking Highlight

South of Witten the Muttenbach flows through a tranquil valley, which is ideal for hiking due to its idyll and silence. But the wild romanticism of the valley, the forests and the rippling brook - knowing that they are still here in the actually densely built-up Ruhr area - is not the only special feature: In Muttental probably the first coal was found in the Ruhr. Numerous small and very small mints once brought coal here in tunnels and first shafts to light. Today, many relics of the past can be viewed on reconstructed and preserved objects on a walk along the mining trail.

In bad weather or rain, bring the right footwear. The trails on this tour are sometimes very muddy and slippery.
