Boardwalk and observation tower in the Großes Torfmoor

Highlight • Trail

To start the hike I can recommend the P3. Here you can choose between 3 routes of different lengths: red, yellow and blue marked. The north tower is near the wooden plank path, which is simply beautifully laid out and gives the raised moor that certain something.👌

Great Peat Bog

Highlight (Segment) • Natural

The large peat bog in the area of Lübbecke and Hille is the only raised bog in the whole of North Rhine-Westphalia. It is located directly in the north of the Wiehengebirge and extends over an area of 467 hectares. Characteristic of the damp moor are the small, dark ponds, the heather plants, high observation towers and small birch groves. The moor is a special ecosystem that you can explore on several hiking trails.

The nature reserve Großes Torfmoor (also: Hiller Moor or Nettelstedter Moor) is a high moor in the north-east of North Rhine-Westphalia in the municipalities of Lübbecke and Hille. The moor lies in a lowland between the Wiehengebirge and the Mittelland Canal and, at 467 hectares, is the most important high moor in Westphalia.

Just run...
Despite the rain, I wanted to go for a good run today, so off to the Great Peat Moor.

This morning I went out into the sunshine in Hiller Moor. Before the big rush of Sunday walkers arrived, I enjoyed the vastness of the moor. A group of cranes gave a trumpet concert in the sky. Do they like it here so much that they don't want to go south? I could understand that.

When the air is clear and the visibility is good, when fluffy clouds romp in the blue sky, wonderfully reflected in the water, when the sun is already a little lower and even more peace returns, then is the best time to take a tour through the large raised bog...
Been here so many times and always fascinated by the …

A nice walk around the peat bog near Hille.
Beautiful paths partly over wooden walkways and solid lookout towers.
Even with bleak weather and wintry vegetation, it's interesting.
I'm looking forward to spring and the many blossoms there.

At last a long, long-cherished wish came true. ⛅ and ⏲ matched perfectly, so Irmscher and I each recorded our tour, simply because of the diversity of the 🖼

The large peat bog is always beautiful.
Unfortunately I live too far away, I would love to cross it once at all times of the year and day.
The play of light is always different, the cloud formations are always different, the hustle and bustle of the animals is also different, and then there is this farsightedness! fantastic!

Short hike in the high moor area today. Frosty wind and warming rays of sunshine alternated. In between small sleet showers. But overall ok....

Despite the wind, rain and muddy paths, my lunch break today was one of the most beautiful. The "Großes Torfmoor" landscape is just beautiful and I don't think the time of year plays a role. I couldn't resist taking pictures again :-)
