South tip of Lake Zwenkau

Highlight • Lake

Southernmost tip of the lake in the east of Zwenkau. Here and there there are nice little places for swimming, including nudism. Nice and relaxed, not as crowded as the Cossi.

April 17, 2025,Zwenkauer See - Start und Ende am Zwenkauer Hafen
Unfortunately, Lake Zwenkau isn't my favorite. Anyone wanting to walk around it should bring a blanket. There are no real rest areas. There are beautiful little islands where many birds live. Unfortunately, you can also hear the highway for a long time, which is a real shame. So the birds' calls are quickly drowned out.

After being in Leipzig on Friday evening and overnight into Saturday, today was the perfect time to finally complete the first tour of the Iron Lake Challenge Saxony. Planned. Done. Here it is 😇 The beginning has been made 🦾

At 4 degrees and a stormy wind, we started our 7th tour from the free parking lot shortly before 10 a.m. I had planned 20.4 km, but we ran 22.5 km because some of the komoot paths went through the water 🙈 and it was just too cold for us today. 🤣 In some places you have a very nice …

Lake Zwenkau is simply beautiful. In my opinion, it is one of the most beautiful lakes in Leipzig's New Lake District. Not as overrun as Lake Cospuden and similar to Lake Störmthal. The hike is relatively easy, but you shouldn't underestimate the 21 kilometers. The hike takes a long time, especially when the lake is flooded. Then various paths along …

Another very enjoyable group hike, organized via Meet5.

With lots of conversation, the 20 km flew by. It was a great success.

My extra challenge of arriving by public transport also worked out perfectly today. 👍😉

The largest and also youngest lake in Leipzig's New Lake District, measuring 10 km², is Lake Zwenkau.
It has been open to swimming and water sports since 2015.
It is also a flooded and recultivated open-cast lignite mine.
The Zwenkau open-cast mine, formerly the Böhlen open-cast mine, was active from 1921 to 1999.
The towns of Bösdorf and Eythra had …

Today our destination was Lake Zwenkau to continue the Iron Lake Challenge Saxony. Some paths directly along the lake were not completely passable because they were under water. But a short detour through the bushes always brought us back on the right path. At the Zwenkau harbor we were rewarded with an Italian 🍧.
