Grimma Town Hall

Highlight • Monument

The first mention was in 1305. It was destroyed by the town fire in 1442 and rebuilt in its current form in 1538 to 1585. It is one of the best-preserved Renaissance town halls in Saxony.

Pöppelmann Bridge (Grimma)

Highlight • Bridge

If you had to choose between the concrete bridge and the baroque Pöppelmann Bridge, it would be clear.
It's a shame that such architecture no longer exists.
Great bridge with hollows and city views.

View of Grimma and the Mulde River

Highlight • Viewpoint

Until 2008, the beautiful river Mulde even gave the surrounding district its name. Then the Muldentalkreis was merged with the Leipzig district.

Of course, hiking in the Muldental is still fantastic. Among other things, on this idyllic path.

Bismarck Tower, Höfgen

Highlight • Monument

Had the beautiful tower included in a tour of Grimma, the tower is beautifully situated and open to explore.
Unfortunately, the view is not the highlight we had hoped for.

September 4, 2021,von Höfgen über Grimma zum Kloster Nimbschen
Set off in the sunshine and arrived in Höfgen in thick fog. The sun didn't show up on the hike, but despite everything it was a wonderful tour 👍
The watermill in Höfgen is worth a visit!

I've been hiking for a few years now—always along the water somehow—but I've rarely done such an entertaining tour.

The bridges, the monastery ruins, the sculptures at various locations, the ferry crossing, the Bismarck Tower, the hiking trails, the weir at the suspension bridge, the castle—all very impressive, simply beautiful. Highly recommended.

The start and end point was the free Rewe car park in the immediate vicinity of the Pöppelmannbrücke, where there is also a free toilet if required.

Really beautiful! Who would have thought that Grimma is such a beautiful town and has such beautiful surroundings. It was really a surprise. Such a beautiful mix of modern and old buildings and creativity and commitment! The highlight was of course the private ferry! You call the ferryman with an old ferry bell! ❤️

Day 2 of the Hike Deluxe led us to Grimma today. We opted for the themed hike to the Nimbschen monastery ruins and information about Katharina von Bora, so we had an entertaining walk over the Pöppelmann Bridge along the Mulde. On the way we learned all sorts of interesting facts about the history of Grimma and the flood damage …

Started today in the best autumn hiking weather in Grimma and walked to the ruins of the Nimbschen monastery, also known from Katharina von Bora.
Then crossed over the Mulde to Höfgen with the call ferry. A cozy village with a water mill, orchards, fortified church and ship mill. At the wild and romantic hollow, the path of the stones …

First of all: a very nice, recommendable circular hike.

The first part went along the Lutherweg. Coming from the train station, past the Schwanenteichpark, towards the Mulde.
The first section was very noisy, with cars everywhere, even outside the city (federal highway).
Then I reached the Nimbschen monastery, which is only a ruin. The beer garden of the Klosterschänke was …

With plenty of sunshine ☀️ at 16°C, we headed to Höfgen on the Mulde. We continued along the Mulde, following the Stone Path 🪨 to Grimma with its Jutta Park and Bismarck Tower, which we discovered for the first time. You get a beautiful view from up there.
