The Elbe cycle path leads along here with a few meters of altitude. It is unpaved and very winding, so you might have to push it at times.

Located directly on the banks and slopes of the Elbe, historic half-timbered houses are lined up on Elbstraße. With the many lovingly renovated houses, the old town of Lauenburg is the largest ensemble of monuments in all of Schleswig-Holstein. History comes to life on a walk along the old cobblestone streets of the shipping town. Numerous small alleys and stairs connect the old town with the upper town. In the comments, the assessments of the navigability differ somewhat. The photos also show sections that run along the shore or lead down to the water. The path at the campsite is also very narrow and partly muddy. So my tip: If you follow the signs for the Elbe Cycle Path, you will be led onto a road about halfway above the water (can also be seen on many photos).

The Elbdeich in Hohnstorf offers a great view of the Elbe and Lauenburg's old town. A great photo spot, especially at night or during sunrise or sunset.

The windmill in Artlenburg is a real eye-catcher and always a nice photo opportunity for me when I pass here on my bike tours. The mill is not far from the mouth of the Elbe Lateral Canal into the Elbe.

This view of Lauenburg is unique and the bank invites you to linger. I love this place. The sunsets there are also uniquely beautiful.

The barrage regulates the fairway of the Upper Elbe with the entrances to the Elbe-Lübeck Canal and the Elbe Lateral Canal, and between Hamburg and Cuxhaven for an even Elbe depth of 12 meters.
