Yes, the path is beautiful! I also cycle the route on a road bike. So it is basically possible. You have to pay attention to the surface, and also to oncoming traffic - it is the Elbe cycle path after all. There are erosion valleys leading to the water that you have to cross, so even short stretches are steeply uphill. For someone who wants to get ahead quickly, I recommend the cycle path on the B5. Anyone with a bit of stamina who wants to cycle along a beautiful forest path above the Elbe will like the route.

Great route, can also be done on a touring bike if you're fit enough. But be careful, expect oncoming traffic on blind bends in the summer (Elbe cycle path!). You'll also have to ride quickly on downhill sections.

The Elbe cycle path leads along here with a few meters of altitude. It is unpaved and very winding, so you might have to push it at times.

In the comments, the assessments of the navigability differ somewhat. The photos also show sections that run along the shore or lead down to the water. The path at the campsite is also very narrow and partly muddy. So my tip: If you follow the signs for the Elbe Cycle Path, you will be led onto a road about halfway above the water (can also be seen on many photos).

The western part of the transnational Elbe River Landscape Biosphere Reserve runs along the High Elbe Riverbank between Tesperhude and Lauenburg. Forested, steeply rising Elbe slopes with numerous incisions and V-shaped valleys characterize the landscape and offer magnificent views of the great river from the beautiful hiking and cycling trails. Regularly flooded floodplain forests along the banks are the habitat of beavers, who have once again made themselves at home here. A two-kilometer-long beaver nature trail invites you to follow in the footsteps of Europe's largest rodent. Hiking Trail & Elbe Cycle Path: approx. 15 km (Geesthacht – Lauenburg)

Very cool tour, sometimes very strenuous as there are a number of extreme climbs of 60 - 90 m, but only on the side from Lauenburg to Geestacht.
