The Sorgwohld dunes near Owschlag have been a nature reserve (identification number 11) along the Sorgeniederung since 1936. The dunes were formed during the late and postglacial periods, approximately 12,000 years ago.

In late summer the heather blooms here. Beautiful inland dune

I always find inland dunes fascinating, in the middle of the country and so unexpected. A highlight every time.

In the Hütten Hills Nature Park.

Beautiful and huge heather on the Sorgwohld inland dune. You can hike all around it and watch rare species of birds. If you have wandered around the dunes on one side, it is worthwhile to make a donation to the Owschlager Moor.

The nature reserve Sorgwohld is located in Schleswig-Holstein, in the district of Rendsburg-Eckernförde, northwest of Rendsburg, near the eponymous, to the community Owschlag belonging village near the Sorge lowlands. The area is the most important inland dune area in Schleswig-Holstein. It is also part of the protected area network Natura 2000. The landscape is characterized by heathland, grasslands and littered individual trees such as pines and birches. The area has a length of about 2 km and a width of about 300 meters.
