The project, concession and works took eight years and on 15 May 1914 the new Robbiate power plant, later named after the engineer. Carlo Esterle, CEO of the company, entered into service. The hydraulic works were completed in the first months of 1914. The dam was a very notable work for its time: it measures 85 m in length and is divided into five arches, each equipped with Stoney-type gates. It raises the river by almost 10 m, creating a body of water several kilometers long. Also impressive was the complex of penstocks and the power plant building which housed six groups of 5,150 kW each, with an impressive, for the time, total power of 30,900 kW. The power plant supplied energy to the city, to the industries and to the towns of the hinterland and, with two special alternators at a frequency of 16 Hz, to the Monza - Lecco railway. The power plant extends along the middle course of the Adda river, downstream from Lake Como and is located in the municipalities of Robbiate (LC) and Cornate d'Adda (MB). The plant uses, in the municipality of Cornate d'Adda, the waters of the Adda river with an underlying catchment area of 4,646 km2.
