The Volcano Museum in the old Daun district office was created as a supplement to the existing geotrails in Hillesheim, Manderscheid, and Gerolstein and is part of the Vulkaneifel Nature and Geopark. The museum displays three-dimensional landscape models of cinder cones, maars, mineral springs, information panels, and exhibits on West Eifel volcanism. The pillory is part of a historical town tour through Daun. It was donated by the Eifelverein Daun local group. In the Middle Ages, this spot (today the forecourt of the "Forum" town hall) was home to the market square. Pillories often stood at such central locations. These "instruments of punishment" became widespread from the 11th century onwards and served to carry out punishments of honor. The pillory, where the convicted were publicly paraded and exposed to the scorn of their fellow citizens, also served as an outward symbol of jurisdiction for the towns.

This spring, a sodium-calcium-magnesium hydrogen carbonate spring, can produce up to 6 liters of refreshing mineral water per minute, with an average temperature of 11.6°C.
