Margravine Sibylla Augusta had undertaken several pilgrimages to Einsiedeln in the Swiss canton of Schwyz and had a replica of the Einsiedeln Chapel of Mercy built in her slag-stone park in 1709. In 1715 she donated an identical chapel to Rastatt, probably as a thank you for the Rastatt peace that had been closed the year before.
