Hofburg Brixen
The Brixen Hofburg can look back on a long history. Built in the distant year 1250 as the residence of the prince-bishops of Brixen, it served as a bishop's seat until 1964. The inner courtyard with the courtyard gate, the Renaissance loggias and the closed Baroque facades is in itself an unforgettable sight. Today the Hofburg also houses the diocesan museum, the cathedral treasury and a nativity scene museum. The original goal of the Diocesan Museum, which opened in 1901, was to collect endangered Romanesque and Gothic works of art.
