The remaining historic city gates, here the "Ulrepforte", which are now in the middle of the city, are impressive witnesses to the extensive city wall that once protectively surrounded 'Colonia Claudia Ara Agrippinensium'. After the demolition, it is mainly thanks to the then mayor, Konrad Adenauer, that the areas were not redeveloped, but that the "green belt" was able to develop.
