      The estate was first mentioned in 1436 in a document. From 1685 the counts of Oertzen lived and passed on the manor. After Reichsfreiherr von Wendt had lived here in the period from 1846 - 1852, the estate was acquired by Prince Pückler. Until 1945, the castle Hornow then remained in the possession of the Wilkins family. She has rebuilt the manor, modernized and given the building its present appearance. In the post-war period and after the expropriation of Fam. Wilkins displaced people moved into the building. A kindergarten was set up in the castle and today's registry office housed agricultural machinery and equipment.

      In 1981 the park was listed as a historical monument and a year later the castle itself was added to the list of district monuments. In 2007, the almost 10-year restructuring phase was completed.
