The rock castle Šaunštejn was an old robber castle. Of these, only remains are to be visited. High up it goes over iron ladders and bridges, partly climbing over the sandstone. Here you should be sure-footed and definitely free from giddiness. If you want to go up there with little kids, you have to be very brave. We did not bother with our 4-year-old and prefer to be single. Unless you have a harness where you could secure the child. On the other hand, many parents came to meet us with even smaller children ...
Attention! The last ascent to the actual vantage point, you should look once to the right around the corner (behind the climb over the sandstone). There is a huge cave that could otherwise easily be overlooked.

The best way to connect the Šaunštejn with the "Little Prebischtor". The way there is a real highlight: wooden stair climbing along large rocks and deep slopes, a cave-like crevice through which the path leads and in between again and again beautiful views through the treetops.

The climb is a bit narrow at one point, so some may need to remove the backpack. A little further up, you have to do a short climb on braces on well-worn steps in the sandstone. Good non-slip footwear is recommended (as on all rocks here) in any case. Attention with higher numbers of visitors, it can come in some places to wait and it can be close again. However, the prospect pays off all efforts.
